Service

The Role of Service

Although service is one of the three pillars of academic life, I engaged in service long before I moved into academe.

I do so because I believe that service to the community ultimately binds someone to it, and have experienced that. The more one participates in a community, the more that person becomes a part of that community and what happens in that community means something not only on a social level, but on a personal level.  In addition, by participating in the community, one can also help define that community and shape its values.
